Here’s a shockless revelation: The majority of the fellow ad creatives I know are Democrats. Some more (much more) liberal than others, but left-leaning nonetheless. While I also know a fair number of conservatives within our ranks, the ratio is definitely more skewed to the left than is the general populace. Usually, our political affiliations don’t cause any strife – which is as it should be. After all, I think we can manage to tout the moist, semi-genuine tuna flavor of Fancy Feast without injecting political subtext. Unless you think using a white cat is somehow racist.

But then comes presidential election time. And in an age of Twitter updates and Facebook status reports, offering pithy political commentary has become just too easy to resist. So we don’t. And now I know at a glance how many of my friends have joined the “That One” group or changed their middle names to “Hussein” in solidarity with Senator Obama.

My question today is, why?

Why are you supporting Obama? Seriously, I want to know. So here’s the deal. Leave a comment explaining your reasons. I’m not going to argue. I’m only going to ask that you follow these simple rules:

  1. You must make a positive argument. That is, you cannot claim that Bush sucks or Palin doesn’t have enough experience or similar arguments. I want to know what you think is right about Obama, not what you think is wrong with McCain.

  2. Be specific. If you talk about one of Obama’s plans, summarize what the plan is. A link would also be nice if you’ve got one. My point is, generalizations don’t prove anything.

  3. I want to know why something is good. For example, if you talk about Obama’s health care plan, I want to know why you believe it’s the government’s role to provide health care. If you think health care is a right, why? Again, I’m not going to argue with your comment. At least not in this post.

  4. Be nice. No swearing, no bomb tossing, no getting up in each others’ respective grills.

I reserve the right to delete or edit comments that violate these guidelines. I will not alter content or meaning. If I cannot edit a comment without changing it’s meaning, I’ll just delete the whole thing.

There you go. Have at it. Be as concise or in-depth as you care to be. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to post.

Later,

Fox
